Wrestling Team Off to a Strong Start
By Michael Menser | Dec 1, 2025 10:31 AM
The Plainfield wrestling team turned in an impressive performance during the first weekend of action at the Center Grove Classic, widely considered one of Indiana’s most competitive early-season wrestling events. Eight elite programs brought both Varsity 1 and Varsity 2 lineups, creating a bracket filled with former state champions, state finalists, and high-profile matchups—including rematches from the 2025 State Finals. Plainfield demonstrated both toughness and depth throughout the tournament, highlighted by a runner-up finish at 190 pounds and multiple podium placers. Head Coach Jones offered the following after the team’s performance: “What impressed me most today was the effort and accountability our boys showed. Our upper weights set the tone with how hard they competed and how responsible they were for every position, every point, every moment. Clampitt and Denaut stepped into this program and immediately made an impact, and that comes from holding themselves accountable to a high standard. Drew White is wrestling with tremendous purpose, and when you combine effort with accountability, you give yourself a chance to be special. He’s starting to do the small things right now. Schoeff, who in my opinion is just as good as anyone in the state, suffered a loss to the top-ranked kid in the state and then came back to beat the No. 2 wrestler for third, and that takes heart and discipline. Spears battled all day and showed the kind of effort that lifts a whole team. It was a strong performance overall by the team, but we all understand the same thing: effort is a choice, accountability is a commitment, and we’ve got to keep choosing both every day. In the end, it all comes down to the message: Get Better!” Plainfield Results 190 lbs: Drew White – Runner-Up 113 lbs: Kellen Schoeff – 3rd 150 lbs: Nate Day – 3rd 215 lbs: Connor Denaut – 3rd 106 lbs: Bricen Spears – 4th HWT: Brody Clampitt – 4th 175 lbs: Jack Nagy – 5th 144 lbs: Dalton Jones – 6th 157 lbs: Aiden Healy – 7th 106 lbs: Crosby Sarault – 8th 120 lbs: Harrison Sarault – 8th 138 lbs: Jaiden Edwards – 8th 157 lbs: Gavin Lyday – 8th Plainfield hosts Whiteland on Wednesday (12/3) at 6:00 pm.
