Quakers Finish Runner-Up at Plainfield Invite

The Plainfield volleyball team turned in a strong performance on Saturday, going 3-1 at the Plainfield Invitational and advancing to the championship match before falling in a hard-fought final to Fishers High School. Each contest was played best 2-out-of-3 sets, and the Quakers came out strong with victories over Fishers (25-22, 25-14), Terre Haute North (25-17, 25-15), and Northview (25-23, 25-17). In the championship, the Quakers and Fishers battled in a back-and-forth contest that went the distance. After Plainfield took the opening set 25-20, the Tigers edged out the second 30-28 and secured the title with a 15-10 win in the decisive third set. Congratulations to Fishers on winning the Invite. The Quakers had several standout performances on the day. Audrey Utterback powered the attack with 50 kills, while Marley VanWanzeele (20 kills) and Macyn Jones (18 kills) added valuable scoring. From the service line, Evie Ellis and Utterback each tallied 5 aces. Defensively, the Quakers were anchored by Taylor Donovan (43 digs), Ellis (38 digs), and Savannah Brock (33 digs). At setter, Charlee Groninger impressed throughout the day, running the offense with consistency and poise. The Quakers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Martinsville for a key Mid-State Conference match-up.
